Troop 919's Organization

The Boy Scout organization is based on a fundamental principal of boys leading boys, with the adults in the background to provide direction. The philosophy is to teach the boys , trust them, train them to lead themselves and others. Scouting is a game with a serious purpose. We expect a great deal from our Scouts and, for the most part, we receive it. If Troop 919 has had any success at all, it is because of this attitude.

The basic unit within the Scout Troop is the Patrol. Each Patrol is made up of a Patrol Leader, an Assistant Patrol Leader, and eight other Scouts with varying degrees of experience. The Patrol Leader of Troop 919 is usually a boy who is 13 or 14 years of age and is experienced in Hiking, Camping and Scouting Skills. The Patrol Leader normally has progressed to the rank of either First Class or Star Scout. He has the responsibility of training and teaching Scouting to your son.

Above the Patrol Leader is the Assistant Senior Patrol Leader who formerly led a Patrol himself, and now operates in an advisory capacity to strengthen the Patrol.

The key boy leader in the Troop who directs the entire program is the Senior Patrol Leader. This is normally a high ranking experienced Scout who is elected by the Troop members in a Democratic format.

The term "Green Bar" encompasses all Patrol Leaders, Assistant Senior Patrol Leaders and the Boy Leadership Core of the Troop. This is the Governing Body in Scouting. The Adult Leadership works closely with this body to keep the meetings and activities of the Troop at an exciting level.

A total of six Patrols exist within Troop 919 with each Patrol operating as an individual unit. Each Patrol will have their own weekly meetings within the Thursday night format, plan their meals for the camp-outs, organize their own transportation and monitor the advancements of each Patrol member. On monthly camp-outs each Patrol will compete with the other for the coveted "Honor Patrol Award" which is bestowed on the winning Patrol by the Boy Leadership within the Troop.
